Summary
Shows how the discovery of DNA is being turned into something useful - a cure for cancer. It begins with a young woman's epic search for the breast cancer gene. Mary Claire King was certain that one of the most common forms of cancer - breast cancer - could be inherited, and became obsessed with trying to prove it. The program follows her 20-year quest, which eventually ended with the gene - and the genetic test for breast cancer she had dreamed of - falling into the hands of a private company. But genetic tests are only the beginning. The program reveals how the finding of cancer genes is the key to 21st century cancer medicine. American railwayman Bud Romine is the living proof.
