Summary
In 1996, Chris Nolan had the world at his feet. A charismatic, energetic young lawyer, he loved music, sport and hanging out with his mates. Then one night he went to sleep and woke up six months later. Chris had suffered a massive brain injury, which robbed him of his ability to see and speak. Doctors told his family and friends that he was vegetative, he simply wasnʼt there. But gradually it became clear that Chris was still there, 2locked in3 to his malfunctioning body, but able to hear, understand and feel. Eight years after his injury, Chris lives in an aged care nursing home. Despite his profound disability, he maintains a wide circle of friends, and has even made new friends along the way. Itʼs unusual because, most people with such severe injuries find their friends stop coming pretty quickly, so that by the end of the first year itʼs pretty common for only family and paid professionals to visit. But, despite the difficulties, Chrisʼs friends have learnt that strong friendships weather even the worst storms, and that a conversation doesnʼt always require the ability to speak
