Summary
Although neovascular glaucoma (NVG) affects a very small percentage of all patients compared with other ocular disorders such as cataracts or open-angle glaucoma, it is strongly associated with a number of common disease states. Examining the incidence of NVG in proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and after central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), two of the most common causes for NVG, can help reveal the significance of NVG in the United States population. Based on the rising number of diabetics, the pervasiveness of CRVO, and the myriad of other causes of pathologic angiogenesis, there is likely to be an increase in the numbers of patients with NVG, as well as an increase in the percentage of the population who develop NVG
