Summary
Orbital inflammation is a common problem that accounts for the majority of orbital processes affecting children and adults, occurring at all ages, in all races, and affecting both genders equally except in thyroid eye disease, which has a female predilection. Computed tomography (CT), typically with contrast, is the gold standard in defining the extent of orbital disease. This module reviews the clinical and radiological features of nonspecific orbital inflammation, the causes, the appropriate work-up, when a multidisciplinary approach is indicated, the significance of different cell types on biopsy, and the advantages and disadvantages of corticosteroids versus other immunomodulators
