- This module focuses on current concepts in the management of neovascular AMD. Approximately 8 million people in the United States are at risk of developing advanced AMD, defined as either geographic atrophy involving the foveal center, or neovascular AMD. The Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) showed that micronutrient supplements had a statistically significant but modest benefit in decreasing progression of intermediate AMD to advanced AMD. The treatment of neovascular AMD has experienced a revolution with the development of intravitreal VEGF inhibitors
